5 Home Decoration Ideas Using Flowers for Mother’s Day

May 9, 2017

A mother’s heart always welcomes hugs and kisses as her greatest gift, but on her special day why not show her how much you care with flowers? Fresh flowers bring new life and energy to any space; these 5 home decoration ideas will both wow mom and dress up her home at the same time.

Personalize Pots

While the flowers you buy may not last forever, why not put them in a pot or vase that she can use all year long to brighten her home with fresh blooms? Purchase several different pots, planters and vases of varying sizes. This will let Mom mix and match around the home later. It will also give you a chance to include a live plant that will have a little more staying power.

Now cover the exterior of the pots and vases with a layer of chalkboard paint, or black paint specially formulated to give you a flat, mat appearance. Decorate the pots, using either chalk for temporary messages that can be updated, or use paint markers in bright colors that will pop against the black background. You can coordinate the different pots together to create a fun display, or make each one different so Mom can use them throughout her home.

Wake Her Up to a Bedside Arrangement

Give Mom a surprise this year by arranging a basketful of flowers or flowering plants on her bedside table. Take cues from her bedroom’s appearance; pick up the colors from her bedding, curtains, or throw pillows to reproduce in the arrangement. Then choose a basket, bucket, or vase that will pull it all together. This will let Mom enjoy her flowers long after Mother’s day has ended.

Add a Vintage Touch

Does Mom love antiques as much as she loves flowers? If that’s the case, take a quick trip to your local antique store or flea market and think outside the box – or the flower vase. Look for vintage porcelain to arrange your bouquet in, or get creative and place your gift in an old watering can, wooden box or basket lined with plastic, or even a birdhouse. The point is that your gift should be unique, whimsical, and encompassing of Mom’s passions, and her love of decor.

Perennial Flower Plant to Decorate the Porch or Patio

It’s nice to receive flowers, but it’s even better when you can receive them again and again, every year. If Mom loves to garden, consider purchasing her a set of sprouted bulbs to plant herself. Or, if she doesn’t have a green thumb, but loves flowers, purchase a hardy perennial plant that doesn’t need much care, such as paperwhites or hyacinth that she can enjoy on her front porch for years to come.

Make the Bathroom Flourish

Flowering plants do more than look nice and brighten a space aesthetically; they also clean the air of the room they’re in. So what better way to brighten Mom’s bathroom design than with a hanging, flowering plant. Look for plants like a Calla Lily that don’t require a lot of natural light, and place one in a decorative hanging basket or planter. Screw a hook to the ceiling, and give Mom something that will make a lasting impression within the room.

Show Mom You Care

Many moms expect flowers on Mother’s day. Go the extra mile and show Mom how much you really care by getting her some flowers or plants that will become a permanent addition to her home’s decor. You never know; you may inspire her to make a few additional changes to her home herself. And if you want to assist her in these projects, be sure to visit the Cost Guides.
