Here at 1-800-Flowers.com, we love to celebrate moms for Mother’s Day. When we were presented with the opportunity to surprise moms with flowers at the Family & Children’s Association in Hempstead, NY, we immediately said yes! The Family & Children’s Association is a non-profit organization who works to protect and strengthen vulnerable children, seniors, families and communities. The group of moms that we surprised today all have children enrolled in organizations nursery co-op program. The co-op is a short-term childcare and case management program for parents seeking to improve the individual and family circumstances through employment, education, training or support services in pursuit of self-sufficiency.

To get everyone ready for the surprise, we brought the moms in for a special Mother’s Day brunch. After eating, we took the kids into a playroom and lined them up with bouquets of Mother’s Day flowers. As the mothers came in to pick up their kids, they were surprised with beautiful bouquets from their children! Seeing their surprised faces and the love between mother and daughter/son was truly priceless! Take a look at some of the photos from the event below!

Purchase several different pots, planters and vases of varying sizes. This will let Mom mix and match around the home later. It will also give you a chance to include a live plant that will have a little more staying power.

Now cover the exterior of the pots and vases with a layer of chalkboard paint, or black paint specially formulated to give you a flat, mat appearance. I picked up this rectangular wooden planter in a national craft store (and of course used one of their weekly 40%-off-any-item coupons) and the wooden letters (that were in the clearance aisle)! Next, I chose the yellow daffodil plant to complement the lettering.
