More About Breast Cancer Awareness Flowers & Gifts

More Information About Breast Cancer Awareness

Although breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American women, over 2.8 million breast cancer survivors are alive in America today thanks to improved screening, more informed diagnoses, and better treatments. Support from research organizations like the American Cancer Society has helped to make some of these treatment advances possible.

Breast cancer symptoms vary widely-from lumps to swelling to skin changes-and many breast cancers have no obvious symptoms at all. Breastcancer.org , whose mission is to provide information and community to those touched by this disease, recommends that monthly breast self-exams be part of your regular health care routine, and you should visit your doctor if you experience breast changes. If you're over 40 or at a high risk for the disease, you should also have an annual mammogram and physical exam by a doctor.

For more details about breast cancer from precautions to prevention, visit the American Cancer Society's breast cancer information page.

Ways to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

There are so many different ways you can help support Breast Cancer Awareness. The first way is fundraising, and one of the most popular ways to do this is by taking part in a walk. Some of the most popular include Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

Another way is to volunteer your time! Whether it's helping important organizations with their day-to-day efforts, or helping to make someone's day at one of the facilities, just a little bit of time dedicated can go a long way. Some organizations and programs you can volunteer through are the National Breast Cancer Foundation's Outreach Volunteer Program, the American Cancer Society Reach to Recovery Program, or the Look Good Feel Better Program.

If you're crunched for time or are unable to attend one of the events above, most of the following non-profits accept donations. These are just a few of the organizations, there may be some local ones in your area to donate to as well.
